Plot Summary

The plot is centered around a group of socially awkward, yet oddly ambitious college students set on making a documentary about reclaiming forgotten celebrities. They plot to film a has-been television star’s sexual encounter and embellish it with the title “Exposed” to achieve their goal of internet fame.

Disguised as a fake documentary, they attempt to interview the actress as her carrer follows. Due to a twist of foolish chance, they capture the footage without her realizing. Once the footage is edited and uploaded, it goes viral and she is once again in the spotlight.

Headlines once again discuss her. She is the center of interview invites, new scripts are written, and every platform is buzzing with her name. Confused yet grateful, the actress goes on a tirade about privacy invasion, and becomes the spokesmodel to the phrase “legal threats.” All the while, other attention-starved celebrities are intrigued by what the students have done and want to “participate” to revamp their nonexistent careers.

While the students are dealing with the mess they’ve created, their loyalties and friendships are called into question, along with a surge of greed. Their irony-laced, satire fame mock-up sparked a world of chaos and the original idea of “fame based satire” transforms into a wild circus. The storyline shifts into a blur of sex, celebrities, and over the top shenanigans.

Characters and Their Performances

Jack Cullison portrays one of the lead students who comes up with the idea of filming a celebrity sex tape. His character is a mix of naive enthusiasm and misguided ambition. He may not be the most skilled performer, but he does a decent job of fitting into the nerdy role archetype.

Howard Cai, Jonathan Brett, and Colbert Alembert complete the student cast and each of them is a variety of the geek archetype. They act as comic relief and sidekicks as well as the faint moral compass of the group.

The scandal’s actress is played by an actress who portrays a mix of vanity, desperation, and humanity. She is shown as the victim and benefactor of the viral tape, wrestling with the duality of being both celebrated and objectified.

Other characters such as ranting agents, clueless reporters, and sleazy entertainment figures all receive caricatures of Hollywood’s underbelly. Their performances are extremely exaggerated and over-the-top, contributing to the movie’s satirical elements.

Fame By Scandal

Put in the limelight for no hard work

For hard work to no success, the movie casts a glaring spotlight of jacuzzie-bubble-car-highlight on the sex tape scandal of the famous characters in the movie. The sex tape ‘controversy’ is simply a mockery of the rampant obsession with celebrities, and it is common for people to cash in their hard work and spirit to smooth sailing scandals and controversies.

Digital Prying

Fame By Scandal seeks to mock the obsession with consuming people’s private lives and turning them into a spectacle. It is not by mistake that a student in with a camera creates a recording to wait film of private interactions.

Exploitation and the Deceit of Contradictory Principles

The aim of the students appears to be making a memorable film. But making the film is nothing more than an attempt to a ‘social recognition’ and the student’s attempt to be status ‘quasi’ celebrities. It is nothing to be surprised because a termed “actress in disguise” who not only supports the tape but uses it to shamelessly exploit on it is entire hypocrisy. The use of differ methods to achieve transcendental goals of an entertainment proves the above.

Fame By Scandal and The Collapse of Friendship

With the expansion of fame, money and greed begins conjuration, the tight knitted relationships among the cast begins to wither away. The same turn of affairs that destroys “friendship” as fame is gained accompanies it, crashing down being the draws of recognition and Lauren.

Style and Direction

As far as visual artistry goes, this film leaves much to be desired. It is flatly and lit dorm as well as studio space to capture college setting, parking lots and low-rent places. The film’s dialogue and absurd nature take center stage to the film’s visuals. Although the film’s editing is flat, the editing is very abrupt.

Generic pop tunes as well as scored music are used as the film’s soundtrack. The tone is both comedic as well as caring little about the film’s décor. Unlike the superficial decor, the college dorms, parking lots and studios serve as the film’s college campus setting.

Scott Wheeler’s direction takes aim at the film’s so-called realism. The treatment is more or less the same. The film is absurd, with characters fully emoting and even dips into soap-opera territory. The pacing means that the absurdity soldiering onward at the same pace. The burning pace regardless of joke delivery.

Reception and Audience Reaction

Critics of the film have remained silent, exploration has gained negative fame possibly because the negative production, acting and humor turned the foul a major focus. Celebrity Sex Tape has gained over boarders with the abundance of immature comedy. This approach at humor is oddly light and makes the film feel freeing.

The film appeals to viewers hoping to find absurd films and B-movies that are so ridiculous, they end up gaining a cult following amongst fans of low-budget films. The film are proudly presented in the trash B-movie forums, a safe haven for the absurdly hilarious films and B-movies.

This is a movie that can be enjoyed in a group setting in which friends can openly poke fun at it or use it to analyze the preposterous ways in which fame is manufactured.

Final Thoughts

The movie celebrity sex tape is a literal expose on the intense scrutiny of the lives of celebrities as it focuses on the ailed, perforated, and cheap underbelly of a celebrity. The movie is a satire on fame, the internet and how privacy is thrown out the window in an instant in the hopes of gaining internet relevance.

This movie is off the rails in a good way. There is a shred of logic underlying the absurd characters and situations. Albeit astonishingly bad jokes, the flick still manages (whether intentionally or not) to tackle the issue regarding the impact of social media and tabloid culture, and how taking advantage of someone defines success in the entertainment world.

It won’t win any awards, but it can be entertaining in the small hours of the night. Celebrity Sex Tape delivers on its name—you’re guaranteed it will be gawk-worthy, and controversial.
