Argylle hosts another acre of Vaughn’s genius, including incredible visualizations of the storyline, quirky characters, and globetrotting. The Wag of the Film Argylle, despite double the simple anticipation in comparison to the other films, received ruthlessly mixed responses, which upon dissection revealed its complex narratives, interspersed with vividly imagined and painfully stark reality, characters, and twists that sleight of hand with the audience’s perception to be its downfall.

Plot Summary

The books on Elly Conway illustrate an unassuming and reserved author who gains unimaginable success as a result of the spy thrillers she produces that capture the audience’s imaginations. The books, profound in thoughts and sprightly in action, tackle the intricacies and complexities each mission holds and personifies them through the agent, Argylle. The author’s wildest dreams and desires in the fast paces fictional sphere gain life through each turn of the page.Within the confines of her home, Elly spends time with her cherished pet cat and partakes in the creative process of writing. However, with every calm setting, there is always something that can shift that tranquility in an instant. Elly is on a train when she meets a mysterious man by the name of Aidan Wilde, who upends her world by claiming that her books predict the actions of a shadowy organization known only as the Division, and that she is much more than a writer. Aidan, a self proclaimed “spy,” has an agenda, and with his apparent world of intrigue and Elly’s novels, will use them to his advantage.

Aidan believes that Elly’s power to write novels has pushed her into becoming a target for some very dangerous people. This, coupled with the frightening prospect of her fictional realities morphing into real life, forces Elly to join Aidan on what promises to be a life threatening journey. In the company of Aidan, she travels great distances in pursuit of a digital file that is supposedly buried under a mountain of top secret data, a file known only as the “Masterkey.”

Elly resolves to conquer the mental burden of her flashbacks, vivid and claustrophobic as they may be. She also begins to display signs of the beginnings of the mental disorder known as “suspicious.” By this time, the reader can attest to the fact that Elly is in possession of nothing but a tangled, contradictory miasma. It has become a farce, and this is reinforced when Elly visits her parents, who in her eyes were a stark embarrassment to her in the present. However, she later learns that they were actually the only point of tracking in what appeared to be an entirely constructed alternate reality to Elly’s entire history.

As the narrative of the novel progresses, Elly learns she’s more than just a writer. She was a spy named Rachel Kylle and hence her former life’s memories were altered in a bid to protect her. The stories that she had been writing were also a result of her hidden memories, coming back to her in the form of fiction.

In the climax of the novel, Elly’s avatar finally accepts her identity. She, together with Aiden, attempts to eliminate the plans of the Division and restore her memories. They devise a plan with the little Elly hidden in books and bring justice to the people who harmed them.

In the denouement of the story, Elly is once again a writer, but this time, she has a deeper understanding of herself. The mid-credit indicator suggests that the story has the potential to develop more plotlines centering on her exploits as a spy, as well as a storyteller.
